about Derek Lam

HisLife: As an American-born designer, what kind of culture do you think you have a greater impact? Derek: I am actually still very oriental. But I enjoy the East-West cultural blend in my body feeling. I was born and raised in the United States, but very much likes to eat Chinese food, if you speak a little English. Americans are more independent and believe in yourself and be faithful to their own decisions. The Chinese people, or Asians, would position themselves for the collective part of it. We can see that the two different cultures of my work plays a crucial role.
